SUCCESSFUL BLUE EYES

BLUE-EYED PEOPLE ARE MORE SUCCESSFUL- screams a headline in the 21 August 2007 issue of Times of India newspaper. A study conducted by US scientists at Louisville University has concluded that blue-eyed people are more successful compared to others. The study says brown eyed people succeeded in outdoor activities while blue eyed people were prone to be more successful in activities that required skills in academics, time structuring and planning. Ummm.

Do we require these studies? Consider this – only 8 % of the world population has blue eyes. That’s a whopping 92 % of the population not likely to be successful in academics and associated activities. Almost all of the Asians and Africans have black or brown eyes. How come then, India and China are exporting software professionals? How come one gets bangalored?

What the world needs is, studies on, increasing food grain production, providing basic health to everyone, reducing gas and carbon dioxide emissions, protecting the fast dwindling natural resources, preventing the meltdown and so on. There are needs and we need to fill them.

Talking about success, SUCCESS comes with hard work, determination, grit, vision, setting goals, dreaming the impossible and belief in oneself. Though not necessarily, in that order. Success is within us and not what others say about us. Success is doing better that yesterday. Success is not in the eye of the holder. (Maybe, that’s not a good one but I didn’t want to kill the flow of thoughts).

These surveys do more harm than good. They dampen one’s spirits. Not everyone is dealt with a good hand in life. So what? Let’s see, I think it was Norman Vincent Peale who said something like ‘If life gives you a lemon, make lemonade’.

So go on, go out! Success is only what you make out of it. Take that step. Go! Go! GO!
Ciao. Wonky Monk.

Paul Newman's baby blues helped make him a star.

A star may not necessarily be successful at academics

Maybe the Blue Eyed folks feel threatened since they're out numbered. Coming from a research background I'm skeptical of the outcome. Were the researchers blue-eyed? But I have to agree with gorilla bananas, Paul Newman's baby blues are amazing!
